Last month when it looked like Hurricane Dorian was heading towards this area, the shelter reached out to its partners throughout the state, in an effort to move our innocent and vulnerable animals out of harm’s way. Over 50 animals were transported to a shelter on Florida’s west coast. Thankfully we were spared from Dorian’s wrath, but our friends in the Bahamas weren’t so lucky. After the devastating storm passed the Abaco Islands, the shelter CEO and 4 employees met a plane full of animals in Ft Lauderdale that had just been through a traumatic experience. Twelve “Potcake” dogs and 13 “potcats” were brought to our shelter on September 16, and will spend 2 weeks in quarantine, then be placed up for adoption.
Because the transfer of 50 animals freed up a lot of kennels, our shelter agreed to help out a struggling county-run shelter to our north. Approximately 25 dogs and cats were brought to our shelter and given examinations, vaccines, heartworm treatment, food, water, soft blankets to lay on, love, and care.
When I say that every last one of these animals were easy going, friendly, and outgoing, I am being 100% honest. It took about 4 hours to get all of their pictures done, but I enjoyed spending time with and giving love to each of these sweet animals. Several of those 25 animals have already found their new home.
