I am heartbroken to share that my best baseball watching buddy Sebastian left me suddenly and unexpectedly for the Rainbow Bridge early this past Saturday morning, July 5th.
He started out as a hurricane foster back in 2018, then never left my home, or my heart. He was transferred to HSTC from the Broward County shelter because he was having trouble getting adopted there. He wasn't getting much attention at HSTC either. So ahead of Hurricane Michael, I agreed to temporarily foster him. But wow, did his personality bloom outside of the shelter.
He is the perfect example of not judging a shelter animal by their kennel presence. If I had judged him by how he looked in his kennel—quiet, aloof, uninterested—I would have missed one of the best friends I’ve ever known.
Outside of those walls, he was something entirely different. He was my shadow, my comfort, my constant. He had this way of settling in beside me during a baseball game like he understood the rhythm of it all—the quiet moments, the anticipation, the joy. Those weren’t just games anymore… they were our time.
Even though he could be vocal, Sebastian didn’t need to be loud to be loved. He showed up in the softest ways—the gentle presence, the steady companionship, the kind of love that doesn’t ask for attention but somehow fills the whole room anyway.
He taught me patience. He taught me that the best things don’t always announce themselves right away…sometimes they just need a chance.
I was only supposed to be his temporary stop. Instead, he became home.
Run free, sweet boy. Find the sunniest spot, the softest place to rest, and maybe—just maybe—catch a game from up there.
I’ll be watching…and thinking of you. Always. 🐾⚾
