One of the requirements of volunteering at the shelter is to wear long pants, to prevent cuts, scratches, and bruises from enthusiastic pets. It's just common sense, and that has carried over into pet sitting. Well on my most recent dog sitting job, I left common sense at home and broke the long pants rule by wearing shorts, thinking I was only going to be there for 30 minutes. Well Bruno and Gordon were happy to see me and jumped up onto my lap. Their nails are well maintained and at a good length, but even well cared for pets can do unintentional damage to people who leave their common sense at home.
