Independence Day is a week away! July 4th = Fireworks so read below for tips on how to best prepare ahead of time in case your dog gets loose.
More pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time of the year with reports spiking 30-60% according to AKC Reunite. While fireworks can be exciting for us, they are often very stressful and overwhelming for our pets. If a pet feels scared, they will do anything to get as far away as possible.
Follow these simple tips to ensure you and your pets have a safe 4th of July:
1) Stay Inside – Keep pets indoors away from all of the action. This will ensure they can’t run off when spooked by fireworks or become too overwhelmed by any holiday festivities.
2) Make Them Feel Safe – Comfort pets by petting, talking to them or offering treats. Be sure they have access to a quiet place they consider safe such as a crate, bedroom, or bathroom.
3) Avoid the Noise – To minimize the noise of fireworks, turn on the TV or stereo and be sure to close doors and windows.
4) ID Your Pet – It’s very important for your pet to be wearing some form of identification; make sure they have a collar and tag with a current phone number and/or address. If your pet is microchipped, please make sure the chip is registered and your contact information is up to date.
